Recently, Qingdao Municipal Development and Reform Commission announced the list of newly recognized Qingdao Engineering Research Centers in 2025. The "Qingdao Engineering Research Center for Computer Vision and Machine Perception", led by the School of Information Engineering of Qingdao Binhai University and jointly applied for with Central South University and Qingdao Zhongdao Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., was successfully approved. This marks a vital step forward for our university in scientific research platform construction and industry-university-research collaborative innovation.

Based in Qingdao and radiating to the surrounding regions, the center will closely align with the major demands of key industries such as intelligent manufacturing, smart agriculture and marine engineering. Centering on three core directions—computer vision detection in complex scenarios, multimodal machine perception, and intelligent system integration—it will conduct cutting-edge technological research, tackle generic key technical problems, and promote the transformation and application of research outcomes. In the next three years, the center will focus on three core tasks: platform construction, technological breakthroughs and achievement transformation, build a high-level R&D and testing platform, explore and establish an efficient industry-university-research-application collaborative innovation mechanism, continuously optimize the structure of the research team, and strive to develop influential technological achievements and industry application models in related fields.

The successful approval fully affirms our university’s disciplinary strength, scientific research organization capacity and the effectiveness of university-enterprise cooperation. Qingdao Binhai University will continue to fully support the construction and operation of the center, strengthen resource integration and process management, advance the high-quality development of the center, and provide strong support for the innovative development of regional economy and society as well as industrial transformation and upgrading.
