Founded in 1992, Qingdao Binhai University became one of the first (two) private undergraduate colleges and universities in Shandong Province in 2005. In 2009, it had the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 2017, it was identified as a master's degree-granting project cultivation and construction unit of Shandong Province. In 2024, it was identified as a master's degree-granting project construction unit of Shandong Province and 2025, it was identified as a master's degree-granting precise cultivation unit of Shandong Province. Since 2019, it has successively cultivated master's degree students jointly with Qingdao University, Shandong University of Science and Technology and Jinan University. In 2013, it was shortlisted as the Ministry of Education's University of Applied Technology Strategic. In 2014, it became a famous construction university of private undergraduate higher education with special characteristics in Shandong Province. in 2021, it was recognized as an experimental university of Chinese ancient poetry recitation and creation by the Ministry of Education, and in 2021, it was recognized as a support unit for the construction of Shandong Province applied undergraduate colleges and universities. in 2023, it jointly cultivated master's degree with Shandong University of Science and Technology. in 2024, it was recognized as a construction unit of master's degree granting in Shandong Province. The university will be recognized as a unit to support the construction of applied undergraduate universities in Shandong Province.
