Recently, Professor Dongryeol Ryu, Ph.D., an internationally acclaimed expert in aging biology and mitochondrial research from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea, was invited to visit our university for academic exchanges and officially appointed as the Chief Scientist of our university.

During his visit, Dr. Dongryeol Ryu toured the key laboratories, Medical Museum, World Animal and Natural Ecology Museum, and scientific research platforms at the Dazhushan Campus and Xiaozhushan Campus of our university. He also delivered an academic report to teachers and students of the School of Medicine and held a seminar with doctors from the medical innovation team.

On the afternoon of December 30, the appointment ceremony of Chief Scientist was held in the meeting room on the 5th floor of Daide Building. Han Xiaomeng, Executive Vice President, presented the appointment letter to Professor Dongryeol Ryu on behalf of the university. At the ceremony, both parties held in-depth discussions on issues such as research projects, team building, and student guidance.

Dr. Dongryeol Ryu is a world-renowned scholar in the fields of aging biology, muscle biology, and mitochondrial function regulation. He has published more than 140 SCI papers, with a total of over 14,000 citations. He has been listed in Stanford University's Top 2% of the World's Scientists for many consecutive years and was awarded the title of "Highly Cited Researcher" by Clarivate Analytics in 2022. His team's research on metabolic regulation, healthy aging, and mechanisms of muscle degeneration has significant international influence.

The appointment of Dr. Dongryeol Ryu as Chief Scientist is one of the initiatives of our university to continuously promote the internationalization of faculty construction and strengthen high-level interdisciplinary cooperation. It will expand the international perspective and inject new vitality into the scientific research improvement and talent training in the field of biomedicine and related disciplines of our university.
