December 5, 2025 marks the 40th International Volunteer Day. On that day, Qingdao Binhai University organized a public lecture event to pay tribute to the "Silent Mentors" – donors of human remains. The venue was solemn and dignified, where teacher and student representatives cherished the memory of the selfless love of these donors and learned from their noble spirit of contributing to society.
During the lecture, Professor Zhuang Zhi, who teaches Systematic Anatomy and Cross-Sectional Imaging Anatomy at the First Basic Medical Science Teaching and Research Section, explained in detail the process, significance and relevant policies of human remains donation with specific cases. He vividly interpreted the great devotion of the "Silent Mentors" – using their final gift of life to promote medical progress and safeguard the hope of life. The stories of the donors shared on site deeply touched every participating student, who listened quietly and expressed their respect for the donors with solemnity.
"Through this lecture, I truly understand that these 'Silent Mentors' are extending their lives in another way, and their spirit of dedication deserves to be remembered forever," said Yang Xiaorui, a student majoring in Preventive Medicine, with deep emotions. She stated that the event gave her a deeper understanding of life and strengthened her belief in practicing the spirit of volunteer service and protecting life. Huang Chenhan, a student from the Rehabilitation Therapy major, added, "As medical students, our future growth is inseparable from the nourishment of the 'Silent Mentors'. Their selfless dedication has built a platform for us to integrate theory with practice. Only by diligently studying professional knowledge can we live up to this precious gift."
It is reported that on November 17, the Shandong Provincial Health Commission officially approved Qingdao Binhai University to establish a human remains reception station.
